resting on the bench outside your door
until the first light of dawn
you wake me with a smile
warmer than the light
and thank me for watching over you
you kiss me and I fly away
back to my home in the clouds
I’m not quite sure why you summon me
but I’m always happy to run to you
one time you called me into your dreams
to tell me about your father
I couldn’t stand to see you cry
when I touched you it seemed to cause pain
you shut me out so fast
you drive me away like the enemy
I’m too much like the father
and again you call to me
for reasons I never understand
protect me, you cry, I’m so afraid
I’m always here for you, I promise
I’ll wait outside your door, my love
nothing evil will ever get in, I swear
I’ll be right here unless you push me away
and then I’ll just wait outside your door
until again you invite me in
